2010-2011 Band Accomplishments
Bravo to all the CHS band students, parents, feeder schools and community for a truly BANNER YEAR 2010-11!
Dr. Max Vanderbeek
- Hosted our most successful U.S.S.B.A. Marching Band Festival ever with a great night of music for the community and solid $fundraiser October 2010
- Marching Band traveled to two U.S.S.B.A. competitions in MD
- Fall 2010 including the "Nationals" at Naval Stadium Annapolis
- Successful Colorguard (flag) season with 12 girls in the unit14 CHS Band students earned a place in the Maryland All-State Band Students (the most of any high school in Maryland)
- 3 CHS Band students earned a place in the "All-Eastern Band"
- November 2010 (the most in CHS history)
- Fall Jazz Ensemble Concert featuring Kyle Coughlin – pro sax\November 2010
- Collaborated on big Fine Arts production of “Nutcracker” December 2010
- Winter Jazz Ensmble Concert featuring Tom Williams- trumpet January 2011
- CHS Percussion Ensemble invited to perform at the "Maryland Day of Percussion" at Goucher College -February 2011
- H.C.P.S.S. District Band Festival at Glenelg H.S. C.H.S. Bands both earned “straight one’s” and “superior” scores March 2011
- Fun and successful Band trip to DisneyWorld in Orlando with 82 students performing with Parade Band, Symph Band, Jazz Ens, and Wind Ens-which earned many accolades including “Best in Class” by the Wind Ensemble - April 2011
- CHS Joined with River Hill High School in April for a combined “Percussion Event” fantastic night of percussion
- “Tri-M” Music Honor Society which is comprised of band, choral, and orchestra students. They performed at local nursing homes including: Grassroots Homeless Shelter, Shangri-La, Harmony Hall, Ellicott City Health and Rehab Center, and the Howard County Senior Center. - Band Backer "Bingo" night raises $1,200 April 2011
- CHS Band "car wash" on Rte 40 raises $610 June 2011
- Visited all three middle school feeders in May for recruiting Colorguard students for Fall 2011
- Our “Band Backer” parent group again set and met high goals for projects and fundraisers for this year and have in place another U.S.S.B.A. Marching Band Competition October 29th
- Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble - Dr. VanDerBeek -Director Mike Harrison-Percussion Director

The Band Backers Board signed its amended by-laws at June 6, 2011 meeting.
